Immersion

Al Baher provides Arabic language instruction for non- native speakers through several programs, each one able to be tailored or expanded based on the students` interests. The center sets high standards of service delivery for each of the programs, ensuring that the students` individual goals and learning style is incorporate into the program.

As Arabic dialects differ regionally, students are provided with a wide array of options to enhance their language abilities. Al Baher students learn the Arabic language as well as the cultural norms, customs, and sensitivities in the Arab world. Below are a few of Al Baher’s more popular programs:

  • Long-Term Immersion Course (3-12 months): The most reliable way of learning Arabic, this immersion course invites students to surround themselves in the language. The course includes accommodation within an Arabic-only environment, intensive language instruction, cultural trips and guest lectures from prominent local leaders.
  • Intensive Immersion Course (2-12 weeks): Similar to the Long-Term Immersion Course, this course focuses on immersing the student in an Arabic environment for a shorter period of time. This course is often preferred by students looking to improve or maintain their existing Arabic or prepare for working in an Arabic speaking country.
  • Intensive In-Country Classroom Course (2-8 weeks): Often an option for those In-country, this Arabic course includes intensive language instruction. Students undergo initial placement and monitoring tests in addition to weekly lessons plans with clear, mutually-defined goals. Through a variety of curricula, classes ensure appropriate and relevant skills are taught: reading, writing, listening/comprehension, speaking, grammar, and vocabulary. Instruction takes place in individual or small groups (6 or fewer students) to increase participation and learning.
  • Long-term In-Country Classroom Course (3-12 months): Similar to the Intensive In-Country Classroom Course, this course includes intensive language instruction. Students undergo placement and monitoring tests in addition to weekly lessons plans with clear, mutually-defined goals. More focus is placed on the student’s particular interests and uses of the language.
